Self-taught abstract painter and sculptor. He is the Ibizan artist with the greatest international impact and presence in museums of contemporary art. Tur uses collage as his technique, white as his colour and the austere Ibizan tradition as his inspiration. Tur Costa’s elegance was, and still is today, a symbol of the island’s modernisation, without giving up the atavistic elements that identify an age-old culture: the light of whitewash, the volumes of its architecture, its layers of history. He drove the arrival and consolidation of avant-garde styles on the island. His painting could not exist without the island, and the island would probably not be the same without his gaze.

Since the 1970s Rafael Tur Costa has exhibited in the best galleries in Ibiza (El Corsario, Van der Voort…) and in Spain (René Metras, Nova, Juana Mordo, etc.). He has exhibited in San Francisco, Berlin, Basel, Lausanne and Zurich. His work is part of the collections of the Palma City Council, the Balearic Government, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza, the Museo Internacional Salvador Allende in Santiago de Chile and the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. Leading Spanish critics have highlighted his importance: Areán, Arnán, Cirici, Giralt-Miracle.
