Ø Nation is an exhibition of works by the visual artist and dancer Riccardo Matlakas. It includes several paintings and ceramic mosaics, as well as relics from the performances the artist has staged internationally, which have become objects of memory and contemplation.
With a painting style close to street art, Matlakas’s work often refers to the place, moment or state of consciousness where, in the clash of different forces (nations, religions, local cultures), choice becomes decisive and takes centre stage. Through his pieces he proposes awareness of belonging to a shared human condition as the key to that decision. With great sensitivity, the artist sees the context he works in as the main inspiration for his work, finding common ground with each culture he connects with. He creates cathartic actions and performances at the forefront of today’s political, environmental and spiritual concerns, seeking the essence of humanity beyond race and custom.
On Saturday 4 June the artist will give a performance at the Estudi. Places are limited and booking is required.
